- The Dream Act is bipartisan legislation that creates a path to citizenship for an estimated 65,000 undocumented immigrants who graduate from US high schools. The Dream Act was blocked from going to a vote this week in the Senate. This web portal lists all recent news coverage on the act.
- A Mormon paper in Utah has attracted controversy because of its pro-immigrant stance according to a story in the New York Times.
- Stephen Colbert testified in character to Congress about immigration. Read the coverage from the Washington Post (includes video of his testimony).

This week election coverage dominated the news in the US. Below are some pieces about immigration policy in the US:
- The web based news outlet TPM reported that Democrats plan to make immigration policy a central issue in the upcoming midterm elections. A legal pathway to citizenship is likely to be on the agenda.
- Due process rights of unauthorized immigrants are being violated by Operation Streamline according to an NPR story. The report investigates Operation Streamline, a Department of Homeland Security program that convicts unauthorized immigrants of a federal crime for being in the country illegally.
- A September 7 story from the New York Times details how NY hospitals are implementing new methods to enhance diversity and cater to immigrant populations.

- Salon.com ran a piece on Jan Brewer called “This Week in Crazy” detailing her false claims that illegal immigrants are beheading people in Arizona. Many video clips are included.
- The LA Times ran a commentary by Marie Myung-Ok Lee on being an “anchor baby” and the ironies of US immigration policy. Her father was an anesthesiologist.
- A new edition of Eurohealth (volume 16, number 1) was just released that is dedicated to “Migration and Health in the European Union.” Eurohealth is a quarterly publication housed at the London School of Economics.
- Though not specifically about health, a Time Magazine story ran this week that describes Nicolas Sarkozy’s policies to increase the deportation of Roma from France amidst EU criticism.

- An article from the Arizona Daily Star stated that approximately 2000 people have died in Arizona crossing the US Mexico border in the last decade. The story contains links to video, audio interviews, interactive maps, and a database of individuals who have died. An AccessDenied contributor Robin Reineke and graduate student at the University of Arizona is also interviewed in this piece.
- A story in the Tucson Weekly reported that July’s heat yielded a near-record number of migrant deaths.
- The NYT this week described a deal in Atlanta to provide dialysis to illegal immigrants. The article also contains several links to past stories on immigration and health.
- U.S. Unauthorized Immigration Flows Are Down Sharply Since Mid-Decade according to a report released on September 1, 2010 by the Pew Hispanic Research Center.
- The Pew Hispanic Research Center released a report titled Unauthorized Immigrants and their US Born Children on August 11, 2010. The report analyzes data on the number, age distribution, fertility, and family structure of legal and unauthorized immigrants in the United States.
